Had the pleasure of once more seeing a presentation from Ben Peacock of Republic for Everyone. Bens work is based on engaging the community in sustainability projects. Todays presentation was about thegaragesaletrail.com.au and it’s fantastic. Based on the concept that everyone registers their garage sale on the website and holds it on the 10th April. By engaging the community, celebrities and media they were able to highlight that garage sales reduce the need for landfill; bring communities together; stimulate local economies and save people money. The project was a huge success with a web 2.0 site, Facebook, twitter and YouTube channels. Ben really has an amazing ability to take a great concept and use the web to promote it and get the public to own the concept. If you ever get chance to see Ben talk take it!
