Republic of Everyones Ben Peacock

Had the pleasure of once more seeing a presentation from Ben Peacock of Republic for Everyone. Bens work is based on engaging the community in sustainability projects. Todays presentation was about thegaragesaletrail.com.au and it’s fantastic. Based on the concept that everyone registers their garage sale on the website and holds it on the 10th April. By engaging the community, celebrities and media they were able to highlight that garage sales reduce the need for landfill; bring communities together; stimulate local economies and save people money. The project was a huge success with a web 2.0 site, Facebook, twitter and YouTube channels. Ben really has an amazing ability to take a great concept and use the web to promote it and get the public to own the concept. If you ever get chance to see Ben talk take it!

Had an incident last night with a kamikaze mosquito. Woke me up around 1am with it’s V2 war-like droning near my chest. Managed to get out to the kitchen and get the fly spray, got back to the bedroom and flicked on the light. Set myself for a major hunting expedition and there it was, lying on the bed next to the pillow. It would be fair to say it was walking, couldn’t work out if it was attempting to get into airspace so I hit it with my finger - dead! In an instant! At that moment I realized it was simply too fat after gorging on my blood and it couldn’t take off! It simply exploded with a blood bomb on my bed sheet! bastard. Still. Gary 1 mosquitos 0

Started watching the new series here in Australia and I have to admit it’s very addictive. We in south Australia have already got the star of the series - John Hughes. Maggie Beer guest appeared and set the wannabe cooks a triple dessert to cook. After time was up each contestant got called to the front, on Johns turn he started walking but left his plate behind, one of the judges Matt Preston prompted him for his dish, but he stood there and told them he wasn’t presenting his dish. It wasn’t good enough and he prides himself on quality, he is a winemaker by trade and everything he produces he puts everything into, and this dish he felt, was a let-down. What makes this extra special is John suffers from celebral palsy so already battles daily. To see the judges faces, then hear them commend his courage, conviction and determination brought tears to my household. He has given me, along with another good cook, John Joyce, the gusto to do a bit more in the kitchen than what I already do. I don’t want to be a chef, but I do want to know how to churn out some winners if I have guests! So to John Hughes I salute you, you are the one we want to win and you have shown us that nothing is impossible and that amazing people stl do exist.

You know I should actually get back to typing things in here. I used to keep a diary for a substantial time, into adulthood, don’t know why but seemed to enjoy it. Spent a long year once writing each entry using calligraphy. That option is removed here unless I change the font, but then again I suppose people want to read interesting material and they aren’t so bothered as to what it looks like.
